Sustainable Agriculture is the basic need of Indian Agriculturist. They have to know about the diseases and insects controlled by pesticides through plant protection agencies, which are hazardous to plants, soil, animals, human being and beneficial insects. The used pesticides have also developed resistance in the pests and residues in the oils, water, vegetables, pulses, cereals, fishes, poultries and milk products which turn out to be hazardous to health. With the development of biotechnology concept and a mandate for ecological safe products like bio-pesticide and bio-agents, sustainable ways have been introduced in cultivation methodology.

The main pesticides and agents, which are in use are Neem oil, B.T., Trichoderma, Tricho-cards, NPV and Pheromone Traps, and Trichoderma is in maximum use. The developed laboratory may fulfill through the different activities of the project:

  1. To make available good quality of bio-pesticides to the farmers;
  2. To maximise crop production and minimise input costs ;
  3. To minimise environmental pollution (in air, water and soil) and occupational health hazards due to chemical pesticides;
  4. To preserve eco-system and main ecological environment;
  5. To minimise residues of chemical pesticides in the crop yield and maximise yield price in the international market.
  6. Standardization of technology for protection of different crops against pests.
  7. Standardization of methods of mass production of predators, parasitoids & pathogens.
  8. Utilization and evaluation of predators, parasitoids and pathogens in different agro-ecosystem.
  9. Training to the trainers & farmers in identification, production, utilization and evaluation of bio-control agents.
  10. Conservation and augmentation of natural enemies already present in the farmer’s fields.
  11. Multiplication of bio-agents in the laboratory and subsequent release in the farmer’s fields against target pests.

The entrenched nature of constraints faced by women and limited sources of past government intervention have highlighted the need for new approaches to meet women’s diverse needs. The most important social innovation to help the poor in recent years has been the success of the thrift and credit based Self Help Groups (SHGs) especially those formed by women. TAMOHA has assisted to form a number of Self Help Groups in the regions of West Delhi, who have successfully developed a system of revolving credit for the benefit of group members based on their own savings. The SHGs are in the path of growth and have a major role in women empowerment.

With the increase in the longevity of life, the aged as a group are not only assuming importance in our social, economic and political frame-work, but it is felt that they are socially vulnerable and need society’s intimate attention. Therefore this has become a subject of interest for our organization. Different modern socio-eco-friendly measurers have been taken by the organization for the welfare of the elderlies and such programs could be useful for their physical and psychological well being and development. We are running an Old Age Recreation Centre in West Delhi. We have vested interest in this field because; the status of the aged in our joint family system is changing. According to the family theorists, the joint family is undergoing changes due to the impact of urbanization, industrialization, shift in population from rural to urban areas, western education, diversification of occupation etc. The hard hit by these changes are old people. This leads to various psychosocial problems and social isolation.

TAMOHA celebrates old age day which aims to create a feeling among the aged that they are not alone in the society, to empower them and to spread awareness among the general public regarding the need and importance of caring our aged.

Women empowerment is an ongoing and dynamic process, which enhances women’s ability to change those structures and ideologies that keep them subordinate. TAMOHA has expressed keen interest in child and women welfare programs. The programs of the organization aims at making them socially empowered, economically independent and self reliant. Child welfare programs of our organization provide for the care, protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of neglected children. The organization has conducted various women and child welfare programs in the regions of Delhi which helped in taking steps to eliminate violence against women. The organization wishes to provide for surety in equality for women in view of legal rights. Through various programs such as Self Help Groups formation, the organization helps in improving the economic status of women. Community participation is being ensured for our all women and child welfare programs with appropriate use of media. TAMOHA wishes to open Multi Purpose Mahila Centers in the upcoming year to provide for the welfare of women, in all means.

AIDS is considered as the world’s silent killer disease. Current HIV prevention coverage is extremely low. Only a fraction of people at risk of HIV exposure have meaningful access to basic prevention services. AIDS threatens economic security and development because it primarily strikes the working-age population. This has implications for survival of communities and enterprises as well as long term maintenance of productive capacity. The organization is strictly concentrated on HIV/AIDS awareness and more concentration is given in encouraging health care workers. Health care workers need to be sensitized to the effects of AIDS, so they can provide non-stigmatizing care. But awareness is needed because AIDS also adversely affects uninfected patients’ quality of care.

TAMOHA is conducting various awareness programs on HIV/AIDS and Health Mela which included various departmental services of health for the people of remote areas. Various awareness programs were conducted in West Delhi, Rajasthan and Karnataka. We have concentrated more on giving awareness to the young generation because they are at a greater risk of HIV/AIDS. Knowledge and information is the first line of defense for young people. We have taken bold steps with the like-minded organizations, to address the AIDS information needed for the youths, but this education/awareness is still far from universal. So more concentration should be given and we wish to extend the programme all over India.

Tamoha is very rigid about the truth that “Education is the key of development”. An educated person can do whatever he can think, they can study books, news papers, periodicals, research & thesis. He or she can analyze about right or wrong and can decide what to do or to avoid wisely. He or she is aware of his or her rights & duties. Before doing something they think over the outcomes & due to that their all decisions become constructive & beneficial for all. Tamoha, in its way to prove the strength of pen, accordingly involve in several projects to empower the society with education. We focus it from grassroot level to take care of our kids. We are running creches, balwari centre for working women kids, street children, dropouts & non school going children with the help of our donors & sponsors. We are also running coaching centre for the students of underprivileged, SC, ST & OBC families preparing for their higher studies. We are also running a “Proudh Siksha Kendra” for the aged.

Solid Waste Management constitutes a serious problem in many cities of our country. Most cities do not collect the totality of wastes generated, and of the wastes collected, only a fraction receives proper disposal. By understanding that waste management is a crucial problem in the cities of our country, TAMOHA concentrated on finding solutions with public support in awarding the people in proper waste management. We make the common people aware about the consequences of improper waste management and pointed out proper solutions for it. The insufficient collection and inappropriate disposal of solid waste represent a source of water, land and air pollution and create risks to human health and the environment. Over the next several decades, globalization, rapid urbanization and economic growth in the developing cities tend to further deteriorate this situation.

TAMOHA is in its initial stage for having role in waste management; it would promote community participation and incorporate informal refuse collectors and scavengers into public private partnerships etc. The proposal approach could help solve the problem of solid wastes in a socially desirable, economically viable and environmentally sound manner.

TAMOHA has done various programs on waste management in the regions of Jharkhand and Delhi. It highlighted the issues that the improper handling and disposal of solid wastes constitutes a serious problem, it contributes to the high morbidity and mortality rates in many of our cities. A positive correlation tends to exist between a community’s income and amount of solid wastes generated. Therefore role of awareness on the consequences is very important among people and our organization is doing on the same.

To find ways and means to combat the evils of communalism, casteism, regionalism, linguism and narrow-mindedness and to formulate definite conclusions in order to give a lead to the country, National Integration Programs have a major role in its extent. TAMOHA celebrates and arranges for festivals and days of national importance such as Independence Day, Republic day, Gandhi Jayanti, National Integration Day etc. Unity in Diversity is the greatest strength of our country and there by multiethnic, multi-linguistic, multi-religious and multi-cultural nation proudly stands. TAMOHA organized different National Integration Programs and students of some schools also participated in it.

In the information society, information and knowledge are the basic resources, and access to them is a necessity. The libraries and other memory institutions have no paradoxes; this can be due to the fact, that the economic importance of libraries is very low, much lower than its real importance in the society. TAMOHA has sincere interest in implementing modern libraries for the welfare and knowledge of our citizens. The phenomena behind the importance of library matters are also very conceptual and complicated. Though skill literacy is still necessary, reading traditional linearly printed texts is no longer sufficient for our citizens. So our organization aimed at implementing advanced libraries. Reading comprehension, judgment and spontaneous exploitation of information are the higher objectives taught in all types. TAMOHA believes that libraries have a partial responsibility to guide the adult population in particular. Schools and peers educate the children and the youth. Libraries retain the traditional task of maintaining children’s book literacy; some future vision even indicates that library will continue to be a partner in this manner. Libraries also play a role in spreading information and literacy to people who might not come into contact with the very modern facilities like internet otherwise. TAMOHA’s library is running at Madanpur, Jhanjharpur, Madhubani, (Bihar) & Roop Nagar, Shiva Nagar Ghat, Benipur, Darbhanga (Bihar).
